Sally appeared with Dustin Hoffmann and Susan George in the Sam Peckinpah film Straw Dogs (1971) which was banned in the UK because of its prolonged rape scene. She played the part of Janice Hedden who is strangled by another character who is a paedophile.
Before The Railway Children, Sally had made her debut in the Children's Film Foundation production Seven Deadly Pills (1964). This led to some small TV roles in Nearest and Dearest (1969), Dixon of Dock Green (1969) and Z Cars (1970).
She became famous for her role in The Railway Children (1970), directed by Lionel Jeffries. She played the younger of the two sisters, 11 year old Phyllis, although she herself was 20 years old at the time. Younger actress Jenny Agutter played the older sister, Bobbie!
Sally Thomsett was born in Sussex in 1950.
In 1973, she appeared in the successful sitcom from Thames TV Man About The House playing the part of bubbly Jo alongside Paula Wilcox & Richard O'Sullivan, with
Sally Thomsett is married to her third husband, Paul Agnew, who is a landscape gardener, and they have a daughter Charlotte.
Sally Thomsett has also made some 'commercials' ranging from Bovril and Persil to Crunchie Bars.
In the theatre, Sally has appeared in several productions including Boeing, Boeing at Brighton, and a number of Christmas pantomimes.
